My lower right back hurts and shoots pain to my legs?

Hi im 14 and for some odd reason i get a pain in my lower right back if i move a certain way shooting pain to my legs and they like “give out” for a moment. Why is this, what could it be from? and my father does not believe im in pain -_- he thinks im faking it to get out of school. It isnt a constant pain, i have had this happen to me a couple weeks ago and it went away should i just wait this out?
